VFF reacts to Vietnam national team still maintaining top 100 in FIFA rankings

FIFA rankings for July 2026: Vietnam national team remains in the top 100 following their win against Myanmar.

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has released the national team rankings for July 2026. This ranking period has seen significant changes following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Spain rising to the top of the world rankings, while Vietnam continues to hold the 99th position.

For Vietnam, the 4-0 victory over Myanmar in a recent international friendly gave coach Kim Sang Sik's side an additional 1.52 points, bringing their total to 1,227.20. As a result, Vietnam remains in 99th place globally, while also maintaining their spot within the top 100 of the FIFA rankings.

In the Southeast Asian region, Thailand remains the highest-ranked team, sitting in 94th place globally with 1,250.80 points, 23.60 points ahead of Vietnam. This gap provides additional motivation for Vietnam to improve their ranking through upcoming matches, especially at the 2026 ASEAN Cup.

VFF comments: "Maintaining a place in the top 100 of the FIFA rankings not only confirms the stability of the Vietnam national team on the international stage but also holds significant importance for seeding in upcoming FIFA and AFC tournaments."

With their 2026 FIFA World Cup victory, Spain has risen to the world number one spot with 1,995.88 points. "La Roja" also gained the most points in this ranking period, adding 121.17 points, thereby surpassing Argentina to claim the top spot. Argentina, despite being runners-up, dropped to second place, while France remained third. England moved up to fourth after reaching the semifinals and finishing third in the World Cup.

The remaining positions in the top 10 belong to Brazil, Morocco, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, and Mexico. Notably, Morocco climbed to sixth place—the highest ranking in their history—while Norway made the biggest leap, moving up 12 spots after an impressive performance at the World Cup.
