The pillar of the Indonesian national team is still on crutches, making it difficult to play in the opening match of the Asean Cup.

The sight of Marselino Ferdinan on crutches while traveling with the Indonesian national team ahead of their Group A opener against Cambodia at the 2026 Asean Cup has caused concern among supporters.

Coach John Herdman said the Oxford United midfielder had a collision during training and is currently being monitored by the medical team.

Concerns arose after Marselino was seen using crutches during a training session of the Indonesian national team ahead of the tournament. The former Persebaya Surabaya player is currently being treated by the team's doctors.

Marselino's availability for the 2026 AFF Cup will continue to be monitored over the next few days, alongside evaluation by the coaching staff and medical department.

Coach Herdman emphasized that Marselino will undergo a fitness test to determine his condition before Indonesia's opening match at the 2026 AFF Cup.

"Hopefully he will undergo a fitness test to determine whether he can play or not. But Marselino is a very strong young man. He has overcome many difficult times recently and has a very strong spirit. He is eager to play, that's for sure."

The strategist also hopes that Marselino's recovery will be quick. According to him, at 21 years old, the midfielder is still a capable player to shoulder the midfield of the Indonesian national team.

"We are monitoring Marselino at the moment. He only had a minor collision in one of our training sessions. So this is just a precautionary measure and we will continue to manage this situation over the next few days," Coach John Herdman told the media at the pre-match press conference on the afternoon of July 26.

This is not the first time Marselino has suffered an injury this year. Previously, he had a hamstring issue during the FIFA Matchday period in June 2026.

At that time, Marselino had just been recalled to the Indonesian national team by coach John Herdman. Despite the hamstring injury, he managed to return and play in Indonesia's second match of the FIFA Matchday in June 2026 against Mozambique.

The Indonesian national team will begin their journey at the 2026 AFF Cup with a clash against Cambodia at Pakansari Stadium (Bogor Regency) at 20:30 local time on July 27.

Before this match, Marselino's condition will continue to be closely monitored by the medical team and coaching staff to determine his ability to play.

At the club level, besides Oxford United, Marselino has also played for Deinze. Currently, the condition of the 21-year-old midfielder will continue to be assessed until just before kickoff.
