Shanghai Masters Snooker: China wins 3, loses 5; Zhou Yuelong edges world champion, Xiao Guodong stages comeback

On July 28 Beijing time, six matches of the first round of the Shanghai Masters Snooker have concluded, with 14 of the 16 spots in the last 16 already filled. On the opening day, eight Chinese players competed, achieving a record of 3 wins and 5 losses—a fairly average performance. In total, five Chinese players have advanced to the round of 16: Zhao Xintong and Wu Yize, who received byes, as well as Ding Junhui, Xiao Guodong, and Zhou Yuelong, who triumphed in the first round.

On the first match day, a total of eight Chinese players competed for spots in the round of 16. Xiao Guodong faced wild-card player Xu Jiarui. He started poorly and was once in a desperate situation at 2-5, with the match even interrupted due to time constraints. However, this time Zhou's mentality was not fragile. He directly fired a century break and an 80+ break, winning two straight frames to defeat Selby 6-5 in a narrow victory, advancing to the round of 16 in an upset.
