OFFICIAL: 29 players called up to Vietnam U23 for ASIAD preparation

Vietnam U23 will officially regroup on July 29 with 29 players to prepare for ASIAD 2026.

On July 29, the Vietnam U23 team will officially regroup at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. This is a short-term training camp to help the coaching staff continue to review form, assess the squad, and select suitable faces for the preparation plan for ASIAD 2026.

The list includes 29 players, featuring many who participated in the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup and the CFA Team China international friendly tournament. Notable names include goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, defender Vo Anh Quan, midfielders Nguyen Xuan Bac, Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong, Nguyen Phi Hoang, Le Van Thuan, Le Viktor, Nguyen Cong Phuong, and two forwards Nguyen Thanh Nhan and Nguyen Quoc Viet.

However, Vietnam U23 cannot yet gather its strongest squad. Some players are on duty with the national team, while many others have returned to their clubs to prepare for the new V.League season. Therefore, the regrouping plan will be flexibly adjusted to ensure a balance between national team duties and the professional schedules of the parent clubs.

During the time Coach Kim Sang-sik and the Vietnam national team are participating in the 2026 AFF Cup, Coach Dinh Hong Vinh continues to be put in charge of the professional affairs of Vietnam U23. He will directly manage training sessions, monitor the progress of each player, and test personnel options suitable for the competition requirements at the continental level.

According to the plan, Vietnam U23 will train from July 29 to August 6. Although the preparation period lasts just over a week, the camp is still important for testing fitness, experimenting with lineups, and strengthening connections between the lines. It is also an opportunity for young players to showcase their abilities and compete for a spot in the ASIAD squad.

ASIAD 2026 will take place in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. In men's football, 15 teams are divided into four groups, including three groups of four and one group of three. According to the draw results, Vietnam U23 is in Group C alongside Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and Kuwait. This is a challenging group, requiring the team to be well-prepared if they want to compete for advancement.
