After a 5-year hiatus, 54-year-old Zinedine Zidane officially announced as head coach of the French national team, signing a 4-year contract with his debut match date confirmed.

On July 28, Beijing time, the French Football Federation officially announced that the 54-year-old French football legend Zinedine Zidane has officially become the head coach of the French men's national team, succeeding Didier Deschamps, who left the position after the World Cup.

According to well-known transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Zidane has signed a four-year contract with the French Football Federation lasting until June 2030. He will oversee the team's campaigns in the 2027 UEFA Nations League, the 2028 European Championship, and the 2030 World Cup.

Now 54 years old, Zidane played for top clubs such as Juventus and Real Madrid during his playing career, and as a key figure for the national team, he helped France win both the European Championship and the World Cup.

Zidane's previous coaching experience was limited to Real Madrid, where he led the team to three consecutive Champions League titles and multiple other trophies, including two La Liga titles and two FIFA Club World Cups.

After leaving Real Madrid in the summer of 2021, Zidane remained without a job. It is reported that he had been waiting for the opportunity to coach the French men's national team. Now, five years later, his wish has finally come true.

With his predecessor Deschamps achieving outstanding results—winning one World Cup, finishing as runner-up in another World Cup, and reaching the European Championship final—Zidane will undoubtedly face considerable pressure upon taking over.

Zidane's debut match as head coach of the French team will be an away game against Turkey on September 26 at midnight Beijing time. During the same international break, France will also host Italy and play home-and-away matches against Belgium.
