Football 'hot girl' Tran Thi Duyen suffers injury, misses out on ASIAD 20

Tran Thi Duyen, a national team defender, picked up an injury in the latest game of Phong Phu Ha Nam in the 2026 V-League women's tournament, meaning she will have to skip the 2026 ASIAD 20.

According to the latest information, Tran Thi Duyen has torn her knee ligament and will undergo surgery.

Vietnam women's football head coach Hoang Van Phuc stated: "This injury is unfortunate for Duyen, the club, and the Vietnam women's national team.

Injuries are something no one wants, but we will have to find a replacement plan."

Tran Thi Duyen, originally from Ha Nam, plays as a right-back and was one of four new faces on the Vietnam women's team selected by coach Mai Duc Chung for ASIAD 19. She became known to fans after a match in the 2017 National Women's Football Championship.

This is the second time Tran Thi Duyen has suffered a serious injury. In 2019, she injured her knee and spent nine months recovering through light training with moderate exercises, as well as following physiotherapy instructions. Once her legs recovered, she independently found and applied balance, knee compression, and muscle stretching exercises.

Tran Thi Duyen's determination and persistent effort brought her back to the pitch, and she was recalled to the Vietnam national team for the 2023 ASIAD 19.

Unfortunately, with this new injury, Tran Thi Duyen will miss the upcoming ASIAD 20, which will take place in Japan this September.

As planned, the Vietnam women's football team will gather in Hanoi from August 7 to prepare for ASIAD 20.

The 2026 ASIAD will be held in Aichi and Nagoya from September 19 to October 4; the women's football competition will start on September 14 and end on October 2.

The draw placed the Vietnam women's football team in Group A alongside hosts Japan, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand. Meanwhile, Group B includes South Korea, North Korea, Bangladesh, and Myanmar; Group C features China, Philippines, Uzbekistan, and Hong Kong (China).

The women's football event at the 2026 ASIAD brings together 12 continental teams, divided into three groups. According to the competition regulations, the top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.
