Dismantled a football betting ring with transactions over 3.2 billion VND, arrested 6 suspects

In the high-point crackdown on gambling and football betting activities in cyberspace, the Lam Dong Province Police have just successfully busted a gambling organization ring that operated during the 2026 World Cup, with transaction amounts reaching over 3.2 billion VND.

According to information from the Lam Dong Provincial Police on July 29, through local situation monitoring, the Police of Bao Lam 2 Commune, in coordination with the Criminal Police Department, detected suspicious signs related to online football betting activities. Subsequently, the authorities summoned a suspect in the area for questioning, and also examined and extracted electronic data from his phone.

The verification process revealed many documents, messages, and data related to football betting activities. Based on the initial evidence, the investigation agency expanded the case and quickly identified the modus operandi of the group.

Investigation results showed that one suspect played a central role in receiving and aggregating betting odds from online gambling sites. The information was then transmitted to participants via the Zalo app. After the matches ended, the suspects would compare win/loss results to settle betting payments.

Notably, the authorities determined that the total amount of money used by the suspects for gambling during the 2026 World Cup exceeded 3.2 billion VND. This figure demonstrates the scale and complexity of online football betting, especially during major tournaments that attract widespread fan attention.

Based on the collected documents and evidence, the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Provincial Police decided to initiate a criminal case and prosecuted six defendants for "Gambling" under Article 321 of the Penal Code. The case is currently being expanded to clarify the role of each involved individual and to handle them strictly according to the law.

From this incident, the Lam Dong Provincial Police continue to advise citizens to enhance their awareness of law compliance and not to engage in gambling or football betting in any form. Additionally, people are urged to proactively provide information and denounce violations to support the authorities in effectively combating crimes, thereby contributing to ensuring security and order in the area.
