A record bonus awaits the Vietnam national team if they win the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026

Southeast Asian football is entering a fresh chapter with the introduction of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, a competition co-hosted by FIFA and the ASEAN region.

Unlike previous AFF Cup editions, this new tournament is not just a championship battleground but also carries special significance in terms of professionalism and finances, as all matches count toward the FIFA rankings, teams can field their strongest squads, and the total prize pool exceeds $4 million USD.

First held during FIFA Days

The biggest difference of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 is that the entire tournament takes place during FIFA Days. This means clubs worldwide are obligated to release players for national team duty.

As a result, Southeast Asian teams, including Vietnam, have the opportunity to call up all their stars playing abroad as well as key domestic players. This is something previous regional tournaments often could not guarantee as they were not part of the official FIFA match calendar.

Gathering the strongest squads is expected to raise the professional level, increase the tournament's appeal, and create more intense competition.

Not only aiming for the title, but teams also have to consider long-term goals, as all results from the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 will count toward the FIFA World Rankings.

This makes every match important, because FIFA rankings directly affect seeding in World Cup qualifiers, the Asian Cup, and many other international tournaments.

For the Vietnam team, a good performance at this tournament not only brings home a trophy but could also improve their world ranking, giving them an advantage in upcoming major campaigns.

Under the new format, the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 features 14 teams, including 11 ASEAN member nations and three guest teams: India, Hong Kong (China), and Pakistan.

The Premier Division will be held in Indonesia with 8 teams, divided into two groups:

Group A: Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore.

Group B: Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the Challenge Division takes place in Hong Kong (China) with 6 teams:

Group A: Hong Kong (China), Myanmar, Brunei.

Prize fund over $4 million USD, Vietnam team faces opportunity for large reward

One of the most attractive aspects of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 is the substantial financial backing.

According to announcements, each participating team will receive at least $125,000 USD in support, not including performance-based bonuses. The Premier Division champion will receive approximately $1 million USD, while the Challenge Division champion gets about $300,000 USD.

Including support funds for participating teams and performance bonuses, the total prize value of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 exceeds $4 million USD, making it one of the richest tournaments in Southeast Asian football history.

As one of the top contenders for the title, the Vietnam team is expected to compete not only for the trophy but also for a record-breaking cash prize if they advance far and claim victory.

According to the schedule, the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 will take place from September 24 to October 3, 2026.
