Two Manchester United players have returned ahead of schedule! Lammens aims to overcome his World Cup nightmare, while Tielemans officially reports for duty.

The two Belgian stars, Sena Lammens and Youri Tielemans, have shortened their breaks and reported for the pre-season training camp ahead of time. Lammens, aged 24, hopes to move past his World Cup disappointment, where he replaced the injured Thibaut Courtois but failed to hold the ball, gifting Spain a dramatic victory.

According to The Sun, Manchester United manager Carrick initially planned to give Lammens a longer rest, but the goalkeeper, after experiencing the setback, actually wanted to return earlier. Lammens could have returned to Carrington next Monday, but he arrived on Thursday instead, eager to train hard and perform well for the club, putting the World Cup error behind him.

The Belgium 1-2 defeat to Spain took place on July 10, and players were entitled to three weeks of leave after the tournament. So Lammens was originally expected to finish his vacation on July 31 at the earliest. However, ESPN reports that the goalkeeper has expressed a strong desire to return to the pitch immediately.

After returning to Carrington, Lammens won't be able to play in this Saturday's friendly against Atletico Madrid. He first needs to undergo fitness training and is likely to be ready for action in about a week. Amad Diallo, who returned even earlier, shared on social media that he has been doing physical training.

Lammens, who joined United for £18 million last season, won the Premier League Best Transfer Award in May. He is confident in maintaining his good form at the club. The club's hierarchy will protect the young goalkeeper and believe he can return to his best for the first Premier League match away at Hull City on August 22.

Lammens' position as United's number one is rock-solid. His only competitors are the newly signed 35-year-old Welsh international Karl Darlow and 40-year-old Tom Heaton, neither of whom poses a threat. The former second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayındır and 22-year-old Czech keeper Radek Vitek will both leave the club this summer.

United have also been linked this week with another World Cup notable goalkeeper, Orlando Gil. The Paraguayan international made a name for himself by saving two penalties in the knockout match against Germany. His agent, Mario Hara, said that United inquired about him.

The 26-year-old Gil plays for San Lorenzo in Argentina, but United made no further moves after the initial contact, apparently giving up on signing him. Gil would require a transfer fee, with a valuation of €7.5 million, while the Red Devils eventually signed Darlow for free, who has a homegrown status and extensive Premier League experience.

The agent's disclosure is mostly to boost the player's profile in the transfer market. Hara said Gil is in talks with English and German clubs and will move to Europe in the summer window.

"We are in negotiations with clubs in England and Germany, and Manchester United also inquired about his transfer," the agent said. "The deal is close to completion, the time is right. We have to be very careful because there are many aspects involved. For him, this is an ideal opportunity to improve his football level. There is no doubt that he is ready and capable of playing in any league. For the benefit of all parties, we will try to finalize the transfer."

New signing Tielemans, who cost United £35 million, also joined the first-team training on Thursday. Tielemans also arrived a day or two earlier than the agreed reporting date. He missed the World Cup knockout match where Lammens made the mistake due to injury, but fortunately his injury was not serious and he has recovered.

Unlike Lammens, whose starting spot is secure, Tielemans must compete with another summer signing André Santos and United's new starlet Kobbie Mainoo for the defensive midfield role in the 4-2-3-1 formation. His experience and ability give him an edge, but he is still not guaranteed to start. Santos is better defensively, while Mainoo is United's homegrown prodigy.
