Goalkeeper Senne Lammens surprised the Manchester United coaching staff by cutting short his holiday and returning to training earlier than planned. This move shows the determination of the 24-year-old shot-stopper to quickly leave behind the unforgettable memory at the 2026 World Cup.

According to The Sun, manager Michael Carrick allowed Lammens extra time off after his stint with the Belgian national team. However, instead of waiting until early next week, the goalkeeper was at the Carrington centre on Thursday to begin preparations for the new season.

Lammens has just experienced one of the toughest moments of his career. In the quarter-final match the 2026 World Cup between Belgium and Spain, he was brought on to replace Thibaut Courtois but made a mistake in the final minutes. Lammens failed to hold onto the opponent's shot, giving Mikel Merino the chance to score the decisive goal in the 88th minute, helping Spain win 2-1.

That defeat caused Belgium to be eliminated, while also putting Lammens under immense pressure. Nevertheless, the Man United goalkeeper did not want to prolong his break. Returning to the training pitch early is seen as his way to regain focus, stabilize his mentality, and compete for a spot ahead of the new season.

The Man United management still has great trust in Lammens. The Belgian goalkeeper had an impressive first season at Old Trafford after moving from Royal Antwerp for a fee of £18.2 million. He contributed to helping the Red Devils secure a return to the Champions League and is considered one of the most successful signings in the Premier League last season.

Also returning to Carrington this time is new signing Youri Tielemans. The Belgian national team captain midfielder joined Man United from Aston Villa for a reported fee of £35 million.

Man United will play friendlies against Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United, and AC Milan. However, Lammens is unlikely to be used immediately in the match against Atletico, as Tom Heaton, Radek Vitek, and Dermot Mee are still sharing playing time in goal.
