Coach Anthony Hudson: 'Thailand respects Malaysia, determined to win first home match'

Coach Anthony Hudson affirmed that Thailand has no edge over Malaysia even though they have had more rest, and he also acknowledged the power of the rival team before the second Group B clash of the ASEAN Cup 2026 at Rajamangala Stadium.

This afternoon, July 31, at Rajamangala Stadium, the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) held a press conference before the match between Thailand and Malaysia in the second round of Group B of the ASEAN Cup 2026.

Attending the press conference were head coach Anthony Hudson and attacking midfielder Kokhana Khamyok. Sharing his thoughts before the game, Coach Hudson noted that Thailand's preparation did not differ much from their opening match against Laos. The team focused on improving shortcomings in their play while ensuring the best physical condition and fitness for the players.

This is also Thailand's first home match in the ASEAN Cup 2026. The American coach expressed excitement and confidence that fans will fill the stadium to support the team.

Regarding the notion that Thailand has had more rest than Malaysia before this encounter, Hudson did not consider it an advantage.

"I disagree with the idea that we have an advantage because we have had more rest. After this match, Thailand will also face a similar schedule when traveling to the Philippines. Our biggest advantage is playing at home. Malaysia is a strong team with thorough preparation, and we respect them," Coach Hudson emphasized.

The 44-year-old coach also highly praised Malaysia's squad, especially attacking players like Endrick dos Santos, Paulo Josué, and two fast wingers.

"I'm not sure about Endrick dos Santos's fitness condition, but he is a very important player. Besides, Malaysia has many other quality players. This is a strong team, and we must prepare well to face them," Hudson said.

Additionally, the Thai coach called on fans to come to Rajamangala Stadium to cheer for the team.

He believes that the passionate atmosphere in the stands provided great motivation for the players during the match against Turkmenistan in March. According to Hudson, the support of the crowd can bring extra energy and fighting spirit to the whole team throughout the ASEAN Cup campaign.

Meanwhile, midfielder Kokhana Khamyok affirmed that Thailand's goal is to win as a tribute to the fans in their first home match.

"We have had extra time to adjust after the opening match. The senior players in the team always support and share their experience. The whole team will try to perform better, win the match, and hope that many fans will come to the stadium to cheer," Kokhana Khamyok shared.
