At the start of the first half, Vietnam took control of the ball and pressed high immediately after the kickoff. In the 2nd minute, Nguyen Dinh Bac delivered a dangerous cross from the left wing, but no teammate could get on the end of it. In the 8th minute, Hoang Hen passed the ball well, but Singapore's defense closed in quickly, preventing Xuan Son from taking a comfortable shot. Shortly after, the naturalized striker had a chance to execute a beautiful volley, but the ball missed the target. In the 35th minute, from a corner kick by Quang Hai, center-back Nguyen Thanh Chung made a sharp header that narrowly missed the Singaporean goalpost.

The first half ended in a 0-0 draw. Despite dominating possession and constantly threatening the goal, Coach Kim Sang Sik's men were unable to break through the opponent's defense.

The second half was a tightly contested affair. Vietnam continued to dominate, creating several clear-cut scoring opportunities, but against the disciplined defense of the visitors, they failed to convert. The opposition also showed their threat with sharp counterattacks, creating two scoring chances. Fortunately, goalkeeper Le Giang Patrik had an outstanding performance and made successful saves.

The 0-0 draw did not reflect the on-field action, but on a day when Vietnam's strikers were unlucky, they could not secure all three points at home against Singapore.

The goalless draw also caused Vietnam to temporarily drop to third place in Group A with 4 points, while Singapore leads the group with 7 points (having played 3 matches: beat Cambodia 2-1, beat Timor Leste 2-0).

This result forces Coach Kim Sang Sik to make tactical adjustments before the away match against Indonesia on August 3.
