The Vietnam national team hurriedly traveled to Indonesia, tasked with the mission of defeating Indonesia.

On August 1st morning, the Vietnamese squad departed for Indonesia to gear up for their third Group A fixture in the 2026 ASEAN Championship.

The entire team departed on a flight at 8:40 AM and is expected to land in Jakarta at 1:00 PM the same day, before continuing by bus to Bogor – the venue for the clash against the host nation Indonesia.

Due to the packed schedule and long travel distance, coach Kim Sang Sik and his players have only one training session in Bogor to complete their preparations before the crucial match.

After two matches played, Vietnam has 4 points, placing them behind Indonesia (6 points, 2 matches) and Singapore (7 points, 3 matches). To reach the semifinals, Vietnam must secure at least 4 points from the remaining two matches.

If they beat Indonesia on August 3, Vietnam will have 7 points. With that total, they only need to defeat Cambodia in the final match to advance, without worrying about the result of the Indonesia vs Singapore game.

If they draw with Indonesia, Vietnam's fate will depend entirely on the Indonesia vs Singapore match in the final round of Group A.

In that scenario, Vietnam will only progress if the Indonesia-Singapore match ends with a winner and loser, and at the same time, Vietnam must beat Cambodia in the concurrent match.

Conversely, Vietnam will be eliminated if Indonesia and Singapore draw with a high score. According to the 2026 ASEAN Cup regulations, in case of a tie on points, head-to-head record is considered first.

In a press conference after the 0-0 draw with Singapore, coach Kim Sang Sik stated: "We will review the footage to analyze the remaining issues and find suitable solutions. The important thing now is to prepare well both technically and mentally for the match against Indonesia."

The match between hosts Indonesia and the Vietnam national team will take place at 8:30 PM on August 3 at Pakansari Stadium (Bogor, Indonesia).
