Argentina coach speaks frankly about Vietnam national team's World Cup chances

Head coach Diego Raul Giustozzi candidly discusses the Vietnam Futsal Team's ambition to reach the World Cup against the backdrop of 5 Asian berths.

Before the opening match at the Continental Championship Friendly Tournament – Thailand 2026, head coach Diego Raul Giustozzi affirmed that the Vietnam futsal team will play with high determination in every match. However, what he expects most is the display of professional skills, composure, and adaptability of the players, especially the young faces who are being given opportunities to prove themselves.

"Currently, about 12 teams in Asia are capable of competing for the 5 World Cup slots. The competition is very fierce. However, with a long-term plan, systematic preparation, and consistency in squad building, I am very confident about the future of the Vietnam futsal team. We will deliver dedicated performances at this tournament," Coach Diego Raul Giustozzi affirmed.

Responding to a question about the team's direction at the Continental Championship Friendly Tournament – Thailand 2026, Coach Diego said this is part of a long-term plan towards the next Asian Futsal Championship, which also serves as the FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifier.

He stated that the process of youth restructuring is being carried out systematically. At the Asian Futsal Championship earlier this year, the team had up to 8 young players in the squad, and this trend will continue in order to build a quality reserve force.

According to the plan, the Vietnam futsal team will play about 15-16 international matches before entering the FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifiers. This will be an opportunity for young players to gain experience, improve their competitive mentality, and be ready to take on important roles when the team needs them.

Assessing the goals at the tournament, the Argentine tactician said that results are not the top priority, although the team always aims for victory in every match.

"Of course we will step onto the pitch with the determination to win. But what I want to see most is the players' performance. The 20-21 year old players now have matured a lot both psychologically and professionally. I want them to take on a leading role for the new players. For the rookies, I want to see how they face and overcome pressure. I believe they have enough ability to become important elements of the team in the future," Coach Diego shared.
