Mbeumo found the net, Manchester United secured an impressive victory over the La Liga giants.

Manchester United earned a dramatic victory over Atletico Madrid during their pre-season friendly at Strawberry Arena in Stockholm on the evening of August 1st.

Manager Michael Carrick deployed a formidable starting eleven featuring Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Mason Mount, Amad Diallo, and Mbeumo. Nevertheless, United's start was far from ideal, as they fell behind within the opening five minutes. A cross from Arnau Ortiz sailed directly into the net, leaving goalkeeper Tom Heaton helpless and handing Atletico an early advantage.

Following the conceded goal, the English side swiftly reasserted their dominance. Mason Mount was industrious in the midfield zone, while Patrick Dorgu and Shea Lacey persistently attempted to penetrate down the wings. In the 74th minute, United's high pressing once again paid dividends. Jack Fletcher intercepted possession, surged down the right wing, and whipped in a teasing cross for Mbeumo to tap in from close range, sealing his double and putting the Red Devils 2-1 ahead.

Atletico launched a fierce response in the closing stages. Remarkably, Morten Hjulmand and Rodrigo Mendoza each struck the post during the same attacking move in the 84th minute. Manchester United held on to secure a 2-1 win, providing an encouraging dress rehearsal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
