0-2! Zheng Qinwen suffers a crushing defeat to Thailand's top player, first time in five years failing to qualify, with no break points earned throughout the match.

In the WTA1000 Toronto qualifying match that ended on August 2 Beijing time, Chinese player Zheng Qinwen was defeated 0-2 by Thailand's top player Thara Ludi, ranked 78th in the world, and missed out on the main draw.

This was the first encounter between 23-year-old Zheng Qinwen and 22-year-old Thara Ludi. In the first set, Zheng was broken first in the 6th game, falling into a 2-4 deficit. She eventually lost the first set 3-6.

In the second set, Zheng's performance did not improve. She was broken first in the 5th game and failed to break back afterwards, losing the second set 4-6, and thus the match 0-2, being eliminated from the women's singles main draw.

The match lasted 1 hour and 22 minutes. Zheng Qinwen hit 9 aces and 2 double faults, with a first serve percentage of only 46%, first serve win rate of 76%, second serve win rate of 48%, and she gave away 3 break points on her serve, being broken twice.

On return, Zheng allowed her opponent to win 27 points out of 29 first serves (a first serve win rate of 93%), while Zheng herself failed to earn a single break point on her opponent's serve.
