On August 2, Beijing time, Wang Xinyu, a 24-year-old Chinese tennis player, took to social media to respond directly to being left off the Chinese squad for the Billie Jean King Cup finals, scheduled for September in Shenzhen.

Wang Xinyu wrote on social media: "It came as a surprise that I couldn't compete in the Billie Jean King Cup finals in my hometown. Representing my country has always been my top priority. I respect the decision, but I am disappointed. My original intention remains unchanged, and I will continue to work hard moving forward."

Earlier, the lineup for the Chinese team at the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup finals was announced. The players representing China are Zheng Qinwen, Wang Xiyu, Zhang Shuai, Guo Hanyu, and Jiang Xinyu.

However, Wang Xinyu, currently ranked 42nd in the world and the highest-ranked Chinese player, was not selected.

Zhang Shuai, Guo Hanyu, and Jiang Xinyu are all doubles specialists. Only Zheng Qinwen and Wang Xiyu are singles players, yet neither currently holds a higher ranking than Wang Xinyu. It is fair to say that the Chinese team's roster has sparked considerable controversy.

Moreover, the tournament is being held in Wang Xinyu's hometown of Shenzhen. Being unable to represent the national team in front of her hometown crowd is precisely why Wang Xinyu feels surprised and disappointed.
