Expected lineup for Indonesia vs Vietnam (8:30 PM on August 3): Will Tai Loc replace Dinh Bac?

The marquee matchup of the ASEAN Cup 2026 Group A round will be Indonesia taking on Vietnam at Pakansari Stadium at 8:30 PM on August 3.

This match is considered crucial in the race for the top spot in the group as well as a ticket to the semifinals, since both teams boast quality squads and are in excellent form.

Indonesia retains its experienced core lineup.

After positive performances in the opening matches, coach John Herdman is likely to continue trusting the stable core that has been functioning well. In goal, Nadeo Argawinata remains the first choice due to his experience and ability to command the defense.

The expected defensive trio consists of Sandy Walsh, Rizky Ridho, and Dony Tri Pamungkas, combining experience and youth. The flanks will be supported by Shayne Pattynama and Dony Tri in both defense and attack, while the midfield features quality names like Thom Haye, Ivar Jenner, Eliano Reijnders, and Marc Klok. This is considered Indonesia's strongest area, with ball control and organized play.

Up front, Beckham Putra and Baker are expected to use their speed and agile movement to pressure Vietnam's defense. The home advantage also serves as a boost for Indonesia to aim for all three points.

Will coach Kim Sang Sik replace Dinh Bac with Tai Loc?

On Vietnam's side, goalkeeper Le Giang is likely to continue as the starter after showing consistency in recent matches.

The defensive line includes Thanh Chung, Xuan Manh, and Doan Van Hau, promising solidity due to their tackling ability and support in building from the back. The wings will be handled by Van Vi and Tien Anh, who are tasked with constant attacking and defending duties.

In midfield, the duo of Hoang Duc and Quang Hai continue to control the tempo, while Tai Loc is expected to bring energy and link the midfield with the attack. Up front, Nguyen Xuan Son remains the biggest hope as the center forward, alongside Do Hoang Hen, who has been in very good form since the start of the tournament.

If any change occurs for Vietnam, it would be Dinh Bac making way for Tai Loc. The striker from Nghe An did not perform well against Singapore and could lose his spot to naturalized player Tai Loc.
