Thailand coach Anthony Hudson proud of his team after victory over Malaysia

The English manager emphasized that he was very proud of his squad's display following Thailand's 2-0 win over Malaysia in the second round of Group B at the 2026 ASEAN Cup, which gave them maximum points after two matches.

In this match, Thailand overcame Malaysia thanks to goals from Yotsakon Burapha and Teerasak Poeiphimai, taking a significant step closer to securing a spot in the semifinals.

Speaking after the game, coach Anthony Hudson said: "First of all, I have to admit that I am very proud of all the players. We produced a match of good quality. However, as everyone saw at the end of the game, some players were fatigued, suffered cramps, and had some physical issues. That is a problem I need to solve to help the players improve their fitness. Nevertheless, I am very satisfied that the team won and kept a clean sheet."

Explaining his decision to let Yotsakon Burapha take the penalty, the English tactician said: "Before the match, we had all the players practice penalties, and Yotsakon showed the highest confidence. When choosing the taker, the most important thing is to select a player confident enough to take responsibility. That's why Yotsakon was given the chance."

Commenting on the atmosphere in the stands, Anthony Hudson stressed: "What I and the coaching staff can do is help the team deliver their best performance and achieve positive results. When the team plays well and gets good results, more fans will come to the stadium. I thank all the supporters who came to cheer today. We will continue to work hard to produce good performances and results to regain the fans' trust."

Assessing the opponent Malaysia, the Thailand head coach said: "I think Malaysia is a very dangerous team. Importantly, without Endrick dos Santos, their system changed. However, many of their players still have very good individual skills, high speed, and their wingers are flexible and energetic. Sergio Aguero also played very well. I want to praise the Malaysian coaching staff for preparing the team very well. This was a match with many complex tactical elements."

Meanwhile, captain Sarach Yooyen, who was voted Man of the Match, expressed satisfaction with the team's victory and clean sheet.

"I am very happy. The most important thing is that we played as a team and kept a clean sheet. That was the goal we set before the match.

I always have confidence in myself. The coaching staff gave us very detailed tactical instructions, and all the players executed them well, making my job easier. We could see that the coordination in midfield was better than in the previous match. That also helped me and my teammates become more confident."

Assessing Malaysia's striker Sergio Aguero, Sarach said: "He is a player with good technique and moves very intelligently to receive the ball. The coaching staff reminded the whole team to pay special attention to him."

Concluding the interview, the Thailand captain sent a message of gratitude to the fans: "First of all, I thank all the supporters who came to the stadium. Every cheer is a great motivation for us. In the next home match, I hope the fans will continue to come in large numbers. We will try to get full points in all remaining matches. I hope everyone continues to support the team."

According to the schedule, Thailand will face the Philippines in the third match of Group B of the 2026 ASEAN Cup. The match will take place at 19:00 on August 4 at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium in Capas, Philippines.
