OFFICIAL: Former PSV Eindhoven star joins Công an TP.HCM

Công an TP.HCM Club keeps upgrading its roster by securing the signing of defender Dirk Abels, an ex-PSV Eindhoven player and Grasshopper's skipper, before the new campaign.

Công an TP.HCM Club continues to demonstrate its grand ambitions ahead of the 2026/27 V.League season. as it officially announced the contract with Dirk Abels, the Dutch center-back who came through the renowned academy PSV Eindhoven.

The information was confirmed on the official website of the club that plays at Thống Nhất Stadium after Dirk Abels became a free agent on July 1, when his contract with Grasshopper Club (Switzerland) ended. Previously, multiple sources from Transfermarkt also revealed that Công an TP.HCM was the club closely following the 29-year-old defender and quickly finalized the deal.

In the official announcement, Công an TP.HCM Club stated: Welcome to Dirk Abels joining Công an TP.HCM Club. The Dutch center-back, born in 1997, stands 1m86 tall and came through the PSV Eindhoven academy. After a period playing for Sparta Rotterdam, he has spent the last three seasons with Grasshopper Club Zürich, where he served as captain. In addition to center-back, Dirk Abels can also play as a right-back and defensive midfielder, promising to bring many tactical solutions to the team.

Dirk Abels was born on June 13, 1997, in the Netherlands. He was trained at the PSV Eindhoven academy before being promoted to the first team in the 2018/19 season. Despite only making one appearance for PSV, the defender made a name for himself while playing for Sparta Rotterdam, where he played for four consecutive seasons in the Dutch Eredivisie.

In 2023, Dirk Abels moved to Grasshopper Club Zürich, one of the most traditional clubs in Switzerland. During his three seasons with this team, he was not only a pillar of the defense but also entrusted with the captain's armband.

Standing at 1m86, with good aerial ability and versatility to play in multiple defensive positions, Dirk Abels is valued by Transfermarkt at around 500.000 Euro.

According to statistics, the Dutch player has made 376 appearances in his career at youth and professional levels, scoring 14 goals and contributed 17 assists. The arrival of Dirk Abels is expected to significantly increase the quality of the defense, while also raising the competitive ambitions of CLB Công an TP.HCM in the new season.
