On the evening of August 2, Beijing time, 55-year-old Shenhua head coach Slutsky announced his resignation at the post-match press conference of this round of the Chinese Super League, ending his 2-year-7-month coaching career at Shenhua. Slutsky said: "I have given my all, but when I think there are some things I cannot change, then I feel it's better to leave. Here, I wish Shenhua all the best."

Shenhua's official team later confirmed Slutsky's departure, thanking him for his outstanding contributions to the club over the past two and a half years and wishing him all the best in the future.

In December 2023, Slutsky replaced Wu Jingui as Shenhua's head coach. During his 2-year-7-month coaching tenure at Shenhua, Slutsky led the team to a record of 65 wins, 19 draws, and 24 losses, with a win rate of 60.1%.

In the past two seasons, Slutsky led the team to the Chinese Super League runner-up position each time. However, he also guided Shenhua to win the Super Cup titles in 2024 and 2025.

In the just-concluded 21st round of the Chinese Super League, Shenhua lost 1-3 away to the promoted team Liaoning Tieren, suffering a third consecutive defeat. According to statistics, this is the first time since Slutsky took over Shenhua that the team has lost three straight in the CSL, and also the first time Shenhua has experienced a three-game losing streak in the league since 2017.

In these three matches, Shenhua scored only one goal and conceded seven, and the team has allowed more than two goals in four consecutive league games. Currently on the standings, after 20 rounds, Shenhua has 19 points (deducted 10 points before the season), only four points above the relegation zone.

In the desperate situation of poor results and the team on the verge of losing control, Slutsky ultimately chose to resign.
