ASEAN Cup 2026: Final Challenge for Cambodia and Timor Leste

According to a VNA correspondent in Southeast Asia, despite defeats to Vietnam (0-7), Singapore (0-2), and Indonesia (0-3), coach José Pedro Alves Salazar's squad has shown resilient fighting spirit. Particularly in the match against Indonesia, Timor Leste kept a clean sheet for over 70 minutes, even though they were down to ten men from the end of the first half, before their stamina faded and they conceded three goals in the final minutes.

Coach Salazar continues to place his faith in a possession-based playing style, even though the average age of the Timor Leste squad is only around 23. Several players currently competing abroad are expected to help the team improve their organization and create more opportunities against Cambodia. However, Timor Leste also faces significant personnel difficulties as defender Jackson Pereira is absent due to suspension, forcing the coaching staff to adjust the defensive line.

On the other side, Cambodia has also not earned any points after two matches and is under great pressure to win at home. This means Timor Leste can take advantage of the opponent's impatient mentality to seek counter-attacking opportunities.
