Vietnam's Futsal Team Secures a Thrilling 2-1 Victory Over Afghanistan at the 2026 Continental Futsal Championship

The Vietnamese futsal squad continued their remarkable streak at the 2026 Continental Futsal Championship, overcoming Afghanistan with a narrow 2-1 win in the third round of matches, which took place on the night of August 3 in Thailand.

Despite building a two-goal lead, Coach Diego Giustozzi's team had to endure a tense final stretch before securing all three points.

Vietnam started the game with initiative and quickly turned their advantage into a goal in the 2nd minute. Following an assist from Nhan Gia Hung, Thinh Phat skillfully bypassed the opposing goalkeeper and slotted the ball into an empty net, giving the red-shirted team the lead.

After the early goal, Vietnam maintained pressure and created a series of dangerous opportunities. However, the red-shirted strikers lacked a bit of precision to extend the margin in the first half.

In the second half, Coach Diego Giustozzi's side continued to control the game. In the 27th minute, Thai Huy unleashed a powerful shot following a corner kick by Chau Doan Phat. The ball deflected off an Afghan player, changing direction and leaving the goalkeeper helpless, making it 2-0.

When the match seemed firmly under control, Afghanistan suddenly mounted a strong comeback. In the 35th minute, Ho Van Y committed a foul inside the box, and the opponents capitalized on the resulting penalty to reduce the deficit to 1-2. In the final minutes, Afghanistan employed a power-play strategy, constantly pressuring Vietnam's goal.

The Vietnamese futsal team also experienced a heart-stopping moment when the referee consulted the Video Support system to check a handball incident involving Chau Doan Phat in the penalty area. After reviewing the footage, the referee determined that no penalty should be awarded, sparing Vietnam from the risk of being equalized.

During the stoppage time at the end of the match, Afghanistan continued to create several dangerous chances, but their finishing was either off target or saved by Ho Van Y. Ultimately, Vietnam secured a 2-1 victory, concluding an emotional match and maintaining their positive momentum at the 2026 Continental Futsal Championship.
