Van Vi was the standout player in Vietnam's 3-0 win over Indonesia.

With an outstanding performance on the left flank and an opening goal, Nguyen Van Vi was awarded the Man of the Match award in the game between Vietnam and Singapore on the evening of August 3.

The Vietnamese team put on a convincing performance when defeating hosts Indonesia 3-0 at Pakansari Stadium (Bogor), thereby brightening their chances of securing a spot in the semi-finals of the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup.

Goals from Nguyen Van Vi in the 6th minute, Nguyen Hai Long in the 15th minute, and Nguyen Xuan Son in the 71st minute helped coach Kim Sang-sik's team rise to the top of Group A.

After three matchdays, Vietnam has 7 points, above Singapore on goal difference and one point ahead of Indonesia. In the final round on August 7, Vietnam meets Cambodia, while Indonesia faces Singapore.

Coach Kim Sang-sik surprised by leaving key players Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Xuan Son on the bench. However, the away team's high pressing style quickly paid off.

In the 6th minute, Nguyen Hai Long dribbled down the left flank before crossing for Nguyen Hoang Duc to touch the ball, allowing Nguyen Van Vi to race through and finish past goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata, opening the scoring for Vietnam.

Indonesia tried to push high looking for an equalizer, but conceded again in the 15th minute. From a sharp counter-attack, Le Pham Thanh Long played a long ball for Nguyen Hai Long to sprint from his own half and then coolly finish past Nadeo, doubling the lead.

Late in the first half, Nguyen Tai Loc almost made it 3-0 with a header that went inches wide from a cross by Pham Xuan Manh. Indonesia only created one significant chance in stoppage time, but Mitch Baker's header went off target.

In the second half, Indonesia remained frustrated against Vietnam's solid defense. In the 63rd minute, coach Kim Sang-sik brought on Nguyen Xuan Son, and the Nam Dinh striker immediately made a difference.

After being denied by Nadeo in the 70th minute, Xuan Son took just one more minute to score. Receiving an accurate long pass from Hoang Duc, the naturalized striker sprinted past the Indonesian defense before finishing to secure the 3-0 victory for Vietnam.
