ASEAN Cup 2026: A Clear Path Ahead

The South Korean tactician praised his team’s fighting spirit and highly commended the players who were given opportunities, especially Nguyen Hai Long and Truong Tien Anh.

Speaking after the match at Pakansari Stadium (Bogor), Coach Kim Sang Sik admitted that this was one of the toughest challenges for Vietnam in the group stage.

"This was a very difficult away match. We gave our all to secure the win. With these three points, our situation looks very bright," Coach Kim Sang Sik shared.

The 49-year-old manager also expressed gratitude to the players and fans for their unwavering support. He said: "I thank the players for giving their best effort. I also thank the fans who were at the stadium and those watching at home for their encouragement. Now our focus shifts to the next match."

The South Korean strategist stated that Vietnam did not have any special preparation for Indonesia compared to the previous match against Singapore. According to him, the difference came from the players who seized their opportunities and made the most of them to prove themselves.

"Actually, the preparation for the match against Indonesia was similar to that for Singapore; we didn't do anything differently. However, the players who were given chances today played with full commitment and left a very good impression, especially Hai Long," Coach Kim Sang Sik noted.

Besides midfielder Nguyen Hai Long, Coach Kim Sang Sik also gave special praise to Truong Tien Anh for his energetic performance on the flank. He emphasized: "Tien Anh covered a lot of ground, which is exactly what we need for our tactics. He is a key player for the team. Today, many of our chances came from his contributions."

The 3-0 win over Indonesia lifted Vietnam to the top of Group A in the 2026 ASEAN Cup with 7 points from three matches, creating a significant advantage in the race for a semifinal spot.

In the final group match on August 7, Coach Kim Sang Sik's side will return home to face Cambodia, aiming to finish the group stage as group leaders.
