Southeast Asian media are "tipping their hats" to the Vietnamese national team after their overwhelming victory over Indonesia.

Numerous Southeast Asian sports websites have lauded Vietnam's display in their 3-0 defeat of Indonesia in Group A of the ASEAN Cup 2026.

The ASEAN United website ran a detailed article stating: "The Vietnamese team delivered a champion-level performance, beating host Indonesia 3-0 at Pakansari Stadium (Bogor) on the evening of August 3. This convincing victory has taken coach Kim Sang-sik and his players a big step closer to securing a semifinal spot in the 2026 ASEAN Cup."

"Goals from Nguyen Van Vi and Nguyen Hai Long within the first 14 minutes laid the foundation for the visitors' victory. In the 71st minute, substitute striker Nguyen Xuan Son scored to seal the 3-0 result, lifting Vietnam to the top of Group A."

After three matches, Vietnam has 7 points, level with Singapore but ahead on goal difference, and one point ahead of Indonesia with only one round left in the group stage."

In Singapore, the newspaper The Straits Times published a lengthy analysis of the defending champions' 3-0 victory over host Indonesia on August 3. The paper noted that this result helped coach Kim Sang-sik's side move to the top of Group A and edge very close to a semifinal berth.

In Thailand, the newspaper Siamsports also gave special attention to Vietnam's victory. The article stressed that the team nicknamed "The Golden Star Warriors" lived up to expectations by beating Indonesia 3-0 on their home turf.

The Thai newspaper wrote: "Defending champions Vietnam, nicknamed 'The Golden Stars', showed the expected strength by overcoming Indonesia 3-0 away. This victory gave them 7 points after 3 matches, thereby moving to the top of Group A in the 2026 ASEAN Championship group stage."
