Moises Caicedo delivered an ambitious statement regarding his future at Stamford Bridge and dedicated heartfelt words to Chelsea supporters during the Asian tour.
Chelsea are currently in Hong Kong as part of their pre-season tour. Before the match against Juventus at Kai Tak Stadium, Moises Caicedo became the center of attention when he spoke about his decision to commit long-term to the London club.
The Ecuadorian midfielder has just linked up with the squad of head coach Xabi Alonso after missing most of the tour in Australia. Caicedo is gradually regaining his fitness and hopes to feature in the game against Juventus, thereby accumulating more playing time before the new season officially begins.
During the press conference in Hong Kong, Caicedo was asked why he agreed to extend his contract with Chelsea earlier this year. The 24-year-old stated that he did not take long to make the decision because he still has very big goals at Stamford Bridge.
“I want to keep playing for the club. Chelsea wanted to extend my contract and I agreed, because I want to become a legend here,”Caicedo shared.
Caicedo's statement quickly drew attention from Chelsea fans. After an initial period of pressure due to his huge transfer fee, the Ecuadorian midfielder has gradually become one of the most important figures in the London club's midfield.
Not only did he openly express his ambition to go down in Chelsea history, Caicedo also spent much of his time talking about the support the team received in Hong Kong. This was his first time visiting the city, but the welcome from fans made the 2001-born midfielder feel as if he were playing at home.
Caicedo was particularly impressed that Asian fans often stay up late or wake up early to follow Chelsea's matches in the Premier League. According to the Ecuadorian, the time difference makes it difficult to support the team, yet the fans still show tremendous backing.
“The way they cheer for us despite the time difference is unbelievable. It's not easy for them to watch Premier League games. We truly appreciate that, because the players can feel that the fans here have given all their love to Chelsea,”Caicedo emphasized.
Caicedo's comments are seen as a powerful statement ahead of the new season. The £115 million midfielder not only wants to continue playing a key role under Xabi Alonso but also aims for a long-term journey that will put his name among the memorable players at Stamford Bridge.
