Chelsea parts ways with 11 stars before the new season

Chelsea is reportedly selling 11 players, aiming to generate close to £500 million in the summer of 2026

Chelsea is reportedly ready to sell up to 11 players in this summer transfer window in order to balance the squad after a series of new signings under manager Xabi Alonso.

The Stamford Bridge side has just had an extremely busy summer in the transfer market. After appointing Alonso to the hot seat, Chelsea continuously strengthened their squad with notable deals.

Most notable is the £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers. Shortly after, Chelsea continued to recruit center-back Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace. In early August, the arrival of Danny Welbeck came as a big surprise, as this was a rare deal prioritizing experience over young players, contrary to the club's usual policy.

Chelsea also completed the return of Jordan Henderson to the Premier League. In addition, Valentin Barco, Geovany Quenda, Marco Palestra, and Emmanuel Emegha have all arrived at Stamford Bridge, bringing the total number of new signings this summer to eight.

The consecutive recruitment of many players gives Alonso more options after a disappointing season where Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League. However, it also makes the Blues' squad too crowded.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea could part ways with up to 11 players before the transfer window closes. If they successfully sell all the names on the list, the London club could earn nearly £500 million.

In defense, after bringing in Lacroix, Chelsea had to streamline their squad. Coach Alonso admitted he only wants about 4 to 5 center-backs in the squad. Trevoh Chalobah is now very close to joining Como for a fee of around £31 million.

Besides Chalobah, Axel Disasi could also leave for around £25 million after a loan spell at West Ham. Benoit Badiashile is valued at £30 million, while full-back Malo Gusto, though still highly rated, is no longer untouchable and has a price tag of up to £75 million.

The midfield also saw many rumors. Enzo Fernandez has been constantly linked with top European clubs. Chelsea is reportedly only willing to negotiate if they receive at least £120 million for the Argentine midfielder, who arrived from Benfica for £106 million in 2023.

In attack, Pedro Neto is still considered an important player but not unsellable. The Portuguese star was once valued at around £70 million.

The arrival of Danny Welbeck also made Chelsea consider offloading a number of strikers. Liam Delap is among the top candidates to leave after a disappointing first season. Nevertheless, Chelsea still wants to recoup more than the £30 million they spent to buy him from Ipswich Town.

Nicolas Jackson, who just spent a season on loan at Bayern Munich, is valued at around £65 million and is attracting interest from Aston Villa. Meanwhile, young talent Marc Guiu is priced at around £25 million after 13 appearances last season.

New signing Emmanuel Emegha is also said to have no clear role despite just joining from Strasbourg. The striker is valued by Transfermarkt at around £20 million. Additionally, Chelsea still wants to sell David Datro Fofana permanently for a fee of around £3 million.

If all the aforementioned deals are completed, Chelsea could collect a total of approximately £494 million, thereby creating additional financial resources and significantly reducing the squad's overcrowding ahead of the new season.
