Arsenal have agreed to sign a Brazilian international star for £75 million.

Arsenal have moved extremely close to finalizing the marquee deal for Bruno Guimaraes, having struck a £75 million deal with Newcastle United.

According to the Newcastle Chronicle, the Brazilian midfielder took part in Newcastle's training camp in Spain on August 4 and had a direct conversation with the club's management and new head coach Matthias Jaissle. During this meeting, Guimaraes once again expressed his desire to leave this summer.

The 28-year-old's move has accelerated negotiations between the two clubs. Arsenal had previously made an initial bid that was rejected by Newcastle. However, the London side returned with a higher offer and eventually found common ground with their counterparts.

Sources indicate that Arsenal will pay the full £75 million fee upfront, with no additional clauses attached. This is regarded as one of the most notable deals in the Premier League during the 2026 summer transfer window.

Personal terms between Guimaraes and Arsenal have actually been agreed for quite some time. The Brazilian midfielder now only awaits the completion of his medical examination before officially becoming a new signing for the Emirates Stadium side.

For Newcastle, this deal yields a substantial profit. In 2022, the northeast club paid only £38 million to sign Guimaraes from Lyon. However, his departure means Newcastle continues to lose another key pillar.

Earlier, Anthony Gordon moved to Barcelona, while Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham. Last summer, Newcastle also parted ways with key striker Alexander Isak when he transferred to Liverpool.

From Arsenal's perspective, manager Mikel Arteta sees Guimaraes as an ideal addition to the midfield. The coaching staff wants another top-class midfielder who can partner with Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, while also providing squad depth given that key players had to play over 50 matches last season.

BBC Sport reports that Arsenal hopes to complete all formalities within the next 48 hours. Guimaraes is currently awaiting permission to leave Newcastle's base at La Manga (Spain) to travel to London for his medical and to sign a formal contract with his new club.

Barring any last-minute surprises, the Brazilian midfielder will soon become part of Arsenal's plan to pursue trophies in the 2026/27 season.
