Thai media react as Vietnam's largest stadium in the world undergoes a name change.

A Thai fanpage with massive engagement highlights that Vietnam's 135,000-capacity stadium is now officially called VinFast.

A popular Thai football fanpage recently drew attention by posting information about the fact that the 135,000-seat stadium in Vietnam has officially been named VinFast. The project was previously commonly referred to as Trống Đồng Stadium or Lạc Việt Stadium, based on a design inspired by traditional Vietnamese cultural symbols.

According to shared information, Vingroup selected the electric car brand VinFast for the key stadium within the Vinhomes Global Sportia project. Naming a stadium after a major corporation or brand is not uncommon worldwide, as many famous sports venues adopt a similar model to increase commercial value, brand recognition, and long-term exploitation potential.

The VinFast Stadium is expected to be built on a land area of approximately 73.3 hectares, within the Hanoi International Sports City, previously introduced as the Olympic City. With a capacity of up to 135,000 spectators, the facility is about four times larger than Mỹ Đình Stadium, and is expected to rank among the world's largest stadiums when completed.

The Thai fanpage believes that the new stadium could help Vietnam enhance its ability to host continental-level sports tournaments, while also aiming for even larger events in the future. Besides football, the facility is also designed to serve cultural programs, entertainment, and international festivals, thereby becoming a key highlight of the new sports complex in Hanoi.

The stadium design is inspired by the Lạc bird and the Dong Son bronze drum, blending traditional values with modern architectural style. The project is expected to be equipped with an automatic retractable roof system and high-standard VVIP areas to meet the requirements for hosting heads of state, international delegations, and important events. The smart operation system is also expected to allow the stadium to flexibly change its functions within a short time.

According to the introduced plan, the project started implementation at the end of 2025, with a target completion date of July 2027. The VinFast Stadium is also envisioned as an environmentally friendly structure, applying artificial intelligence in management, using heat-resistant and UV-resistant materials, and a water-saving system. The interest from Thai media shows that the project is generating significant buzz in the region.
