Hanoi dominates, closes in on top spot in U16 Women's National Championship

In round 5 of the 2026 National U16 Women's Championship, Hanoi U16 girls beat HCMC 4-1, leveling on points with table-topping Phong Phu Ha Nam.

On the afternoon of August 5, the second match of round 5 of the 2026 National U16 Women's Football Championship witnessed an impressive performance by Hanoi's U16 women's team against HCMC. With a dominant display throughout the 90 minutes, the capital side secured a convincing 4-1 victory, raising their total to 10 points and keeping up the intense chase for the top of the standings.

Right from the opening whistle, Hanoi showed superiority in both ball control and attacking organization. The yellow-shirted team consistently executed fluid combinations, forcing HCMC's defense to drop deep. The pressure paid off in the 12th minute when Tran Thao Uyen finished accurately to open the scoring, giving Hanoi the confidence to play more freely for the rest of the match.

With the lead, Hanoi played even more smoothly and completely controlled the game. The capital side repeatedly created dangerous chances through fast attacks. In the 36th minute, Do Thi Ha Vi doubled the advantage with a neat finish inside the box. Just six minutes later, Phan Thi Thu Phuong added her name to the scoresheet, helping Hanoi close the first half with a 3-0 lead.

After the break, the pattern remained largely unchanged as Hanoi continued to dominate. Only four minutes into the second half, Do Thi Ha Vi completed her brace with a goal to make it 4-0, essentially ending any hope of a comeback for HCMC. For most of the remaining time, Hanoi deliberately slowed the tempo but maintained solidity across all three lines.

HCMC's efforts were rewarded only in the 90th minute when Nguyen Phuong Thao scored a consolation goal, reducing the deficit to 1-4. However, that was not enough to spare the southern side from their fourth defeat of the tournament. Defensive shortcomings and poor finishing continue to be issues that HCMC needs to address in the coming rounds.

With the three points, Hanoi improved to 10 points after five matches, consisting of three wins, one draw, and one loss. The capital side now shares the same points as Phong Phu Ha Nam but sits second on goal difference, making the title race even more exciting. Meanwhile, Son La is third with 7 points, while HCMC remains at the bottom with only 1 point after five rounds.
