Inter Miami came from behind to win 4-2, securing a opening victory in the Leagues Cup, with Messi scoring twice and providing an assist, bringing his career goal tally to 921.

In the opening match of the Leagues Cup group stage held on August 6 Beijing time, Inter Miami beat St. Louis 4-2 at home, earning a triumphant start.

Only four minutes into the game, St. Louis struck first as Rodriguez headed home. Just seven minutes later, Inter Miami leveled the score. Casemiro orchestrated the attack, Allen delivered a cross, and Messi arrived to tap it in, ending a drought of over two months without a goal for the club.

In the 26th minute, Allen again provided an assist from the byline with a cutback pass, and Segovia slotted home easily, putting Inter Miami ahead.

In the 44th minute, Allen sent a diagonal pass, Bright flicked it on at the near post, and Messi blasted in a shot, extending Inter Miami's lead to 3-1.

With his brace in this match, Messi's career total now stands at 921 goals. He becomes only the second male footballer in history, after Cristiano Ronaldo, to reach the 920-goal milestone.

Messi reached the 920-goal milestone in 93 fewer matches than Ronaldo and was 313 days younger in actual age at the time. Additionally, in the Leagues Cup, Messi has scored 14 goals in 12 games, surpassing Buanga (13 goals) to become the competition's all-time leading scorer.

In the 6th minute of first-half stoppage time, Messi delivered an assist from a corner kick, and Mikkel rose high to head the ball home, sending Inter Miami into halftime with a 4-1 advantage.

After the break, St. Louis pulled one back in the 52nd minute through Llorente. Ultimately, Inter Miami held on to secure the victory until the final whistle.

On August 9 at 9:00 PM, Inter Miami will face their second Leagues Cup opponent, Monterrey.
