Vietnam team completes preparations, aims to beat Cambodia

The Vietnamese squad conducted a formal practice at My Dinh Stadium on the afternoon of August 6, completing their final preparations ahead of their home game against Cambodia in the last Group A fixture of the 2026 ASEAN Cup.

After renovation, the pitch at My Dinh Stadium impressed with its uniform green color and significantly improved quality. The favorable pitch conditions allowed the players to confidently execute technical drills, while also creating a relaxed mindset ahead of the match that will decide the top spot in the group.

In this session, coach Kim Sang Sik proactively reduced the workload for his players following a busy match schedule. The team mainly performed warm-up exercises, small-group coordination drills, and ball control practice to maintain their physical condition and excitement before kick-off.

During the afternoon training on August 6, the Vietnam team was without Tai Loc, Xuan Son, Hoang Hen, Van Lam, and Van Hau.

After three rounds, Vietnam leads Group A with 7 points and holds the destiny in their own hands to secure the top position. They only need to defeat Cambodia at home to finish the group stage in first place, thereby gaining an advantage before entering the semifinals, where they will play the return leg at home.

Although considered stronger than the opponent, the coaching staff remained cautious in their preparations. Coach Kim Sang Sik confirmed that Vietnam's goal is to take all three points, emphasizing respect for Cambodia.

The South Korean manager also stated that he would make sensible personnel adjustments to achieve the best result while ensuring the team's physical foundation for the remainder of the tournament.

With thorough preparation, high spirits, and home advantage, the Vietnam team is expected to achieve their goal of victory over Cambodia, thereby affirming their status as a top contender for the 2026 ASEAN Cup championship.
