Argentina adopts the date of its victory over England at the World Cup as a commemorative day.

The Argentine Football Federation chose July 15 as a celebration day after a stunning turnaround win against England in the 2026 World Cup semifinal, creating a landmark moment in history.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has officially announcedthat July 15 each year will be "Argentina National Teams Day", aimed at honoring the emotional victory over England in the 2026 World Cup semifinal. The decision was made during an AFA Executive Board meeting and marks one of the most unforgettable moments in Argentine football.

The semifinal match at the Atlanta stadium went down in history as Argentina staged a spectacular comeback. The English team, under coach Thomas Tuchel, opened the scoring in the 55th minute through a goal from Anthony Gordon and came very close to securing a spot in the final.

However, as the match entered its final minutes, the champions' resilience shone through. Enzo Fernandez equalized in the 85th minute before Lautaro Martinez scored the decisive goal in stoppage time, giving Argentina a 2-1 comeback win and a place in the World Cup final for the second consecutive time.

In the official announcement, the AFA confirmed that choosing July 15 is intended to commemorate the historic victory over a long-standing rival. Nevertheless, President Javier Milei and AFA President Claudio Tapia both defended the team. Tapia even stated that for many Argentines, the win over England was as significant as winning the title, despite the team later losing to Spain in the final.
