OFFICIAL: Man United announces signing of South American prodigy

Manchester United has officially unveiled their new signing Cristian Orozco, a promising young Colombian who recently turned 18 and will start a fresh chapter at Old Trafford.

Manchester United has formally confirmed the acquisition of Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF. The young Colombian midfielder becomes one of the notable new faces added by the Red Devils this summer.

In fact, this deal was already agreed upon by Manchester United and Fortaleza CEIF some time ago. However, Orozco could not immediately move to England as he was not yet old enough to complete the necessary procedures.

After turning 18 last month, the Colombian talent officially began his journey at the Manchester club.

Orozco even had his first minutes in a Manchester United shirt before the transfer was widely announced. In last week's friendly against Altrincham, the 18-year-old midfielder was brought on after the 60th minute and made some impressions during his time on the pitch as a trialist.

In the statement confirming the signing of the young South American player, the Old Trafford club wrote:

“Manchester United has completed the signing of highly promising young midfielder Cristian Orozco. The 18-year-old joins from Fortaleza CEIF, a club competing in Colombia's Categoria Primera A.”

United also provided further details on the newcomer's development: “Orozco came through the academy at Rojo FC, made five appearances for Fortaleza's first team last season, and has represented Colombia up to the U17 level. Everyone at the club welcomes Cristian to United and wishes him all the best.”

Although rated as one of the most promising young talents, Manchester United has no intention of rushing Orozco's development.

Sources close to the club emphasize that the Red Devils will “take it slowly” with the 18-year-old midfielder. Orozco still needs time to adapt to the new environment, the intensity of training, and the higher demands at Manchester United.

The language barrier is also an issue Orozco must overcome in the early stages. The Colombian player is currently unable to communicate in English, so the coaching staff has to convey some instructions through Spanish-speaking players.

Notably, Orozco's style has been compared to Moises Caicedo, the star currently playing for Chelsea. Both are early-maturing South American midfielders, excelling in central areas with responsibilities for ball recovery, shielding the defense, and circulating the ball.

Of course, Orozco is only 18 and still has a long way to go before being placed on the same level as Caicedo. However, the similarities in position and initial qualities partly explain why the Colombian talent caught Manchester United's attention very early on.

Orozco's arrival also aligns with the approach of giving opportunities to young talents that manager Michael Carrick is implementing during the pre-season. The United boss has used many young players in friendlies, and Orozco could continue to be given chances, like Heaven or Shea Lacey, if he shows good adaptability.

For Orozco, the journey from Colombia to Manchester is just the beginning. For United, this is another deal showing that the Red Devils are actively seeking promising young talents from the South American market.
