Thailand coach: 'Semi-final plans must wait until after Myanmar match'

Anthony Hudson stated that Thailand is not thinking about the knockout rounds yet, with only one group match left in the ASEAN Cup 2026. The British coach emphasized that the team must give their full concentration to the match against Myanmar before planning for the next step.

This afternoon, August 7, at the Rajamangala Stadium press room, the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) held a pre-match press conference for the final group B match of the ASEAN Cup 2026 between Thailand (FIFA rank 94) and Myanmar (FIFA rank 158).

Attending the press conference on behalf of the host Thailand were head coach Anthony Hudson and midfielder Chaiyapol Adthon.

At the start of the press conference, coach Anthony Hudson expressed condolences to Debsirin Nonthaburi School and all its staff, teachers, and students, while also wishing them a speedy recovery from the difficult period.

Speaking about the match against Myanmar, the English tactician said: "The team's preparation has gone smoothly. After the previous match, the players showed signs of fatigue but have recovered well and are now 100% ready for the match against Myanmar."

Regarding some players who have received yellow cards, Hudson affirmed: "This is still the group stage, so I trust all the players. In a long tournament, we have to manage the squad well. It's not just about yellow cards but also the risk of injuries, because it's still the pre-season period. The coaching staff has discussed thoroughly to achieve good results, qualify for the semi-finals, and ensure every player is ready for the next round."

When asked about the semi-finals, Hudson emphasized: "Right now we are not thinking about the semi-finals. The whole team is only focused on the match against Myanmar. We always respect the opponent because they are a strong team. Rotating the squad is necessary as this is the pre-season period, and many players are affected by training, matches, and travel. The immediate goal is still tomorrow's match."

Evaluating his own work, the Thailand coach shared: "My task is to do my best for the national team and the country. Each training camp has different objectives. Sometimes we had to win to qualify for the Asian Cup, sometimes we tested many new players. In this camp, I want to thank the clubs for releasing their players. I always focus on each match while continuing to develop the team. Overall, I am satisfied with what the players have shown."

Closing the press conference, Hudson thanked the fans: "Thank you to the fans who have accompanied the team, from those who went to the Philippines and Laos to cheer, to those who were at the stadium for the match against Malaysia. The overwhelming support from the audience will give us strength and put pressure on the opponent when we play at home. I hope the fans will continue to come to the stadium and support the team."

Meanwhile, midfielder Chaiyapol Adthon said: 'The atmosphere in the team is very good after we won three consecutive matches. The goal against Myanmar is to win and finish the group stage at the top.

However, the team will not be complacent because Myanmar is a strong opponent. We hope that fans will come to the stadium in large numbers to support us. We will give our all and deliver the best performance.'
