Trần Thị Duyên undergoes second ACL reconstruction surgery

The defender from Phong Phú Hà Nam and the Vietnam women's national team, Trần Thị Duyên, recently had her second ACL reconstruction surgery following an unfortunate re-rupture of the ligament while playing.

The information was shared on Facebook by the surgeon who performed the operation. Accordingly, Trần Thị Duyên had previously undergone ACL reconstruction and returned to top-level competition. However, she suffered another ACL tear, requiring a second surgery.

This is considered a much more complex surgery than the first, requiring careful preparation in terms of treatment methods and rehabilitation plans.

The surgical team applied 3D bone tunnel imaging technology and combined it with anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction to increase knee stability and reduce the risk of re-injury when the athlete returns to professional competition.

According to the doctor, the surgery went smoothly as planned. However, Trần Thị Duyên still has a long road ahead with the rehabilitation process.

The medical team performing the surgery and supporting recovery believes that with the determination of a national team player and the support of sports medicine experts, the defender born in 2000 will gradually regain her form and return to the pitch soon.

Due to this surgery, Trần Thị Duyên will not be able to be part of the Vietnam women's football team for the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD).

VFF Deputy General Secretary Nguyen Thanh Ha, along with representatives from the VFF Sports Medicine Department, visited Trần Thị Duyên to inquire about her treatment and encouraged the female player to stay strong, adhere to the treatment and rehabilitation protocol, and return to competition soon.

After a successful surgery at the 108 Military Central Hospital, Trần Thị Duyên will enter the rehabilitation phase. According to doctors' assessment, the expected recovery time for the player to return to training and competition is between 6 and 9 months.
