The semifinal of the Tomorrow Star Champions Cup concluded on August 7, Beijing time, saw Shanghai U17 boys narrowly defeated by Arsenal U17 5-6 on penalties, thus failing to reach the final. Arsenal, on the other hand, secured their spot in the final, where they will once again meet the U17 national team for the title.

In the earlier group stage, Shanghai U17 finished top of Group B with one win and two draws, while Arsenal U17 placed second in Group A with one win, one draw, and one loss.

Just three minutes into the match, Shanghai U17 launched an attack. Liang Jinhong received the ball on the flank, drove into the penalty area, but instead of shooting, he crossed the ball across the goal, only to have it cleared by a defender.

In the 10th minute, Liang Jinhong almost had a one-on-one chance after receiving a long ball from the back, but Jack Talbot collected the ball first.

In the 15th minute, Arsenal U17 broke the deadlock. Daniel McCallum headed home from a corner kick assist, giving Arsenal a 1-0 lead.

After the break, in the 58th minute, Shanghai had a free kick. An Arsenal player pulled down a Shanghai player in the box, resulting in a penalty. Liang Jinhong stepped up and scored to equalize for Shanghai.

In the 84th minute, Arsenal had a set piece in the attacking third. A Shanghai player committed a defensive foul in the box. Substitute Jayden Mahoma converted the penalty to put Arsenal ahead again.

Just three minutes later, the resilient Shanghai team equalized again. Lü Mengyang delivered a precise cross, and Li Wenbo headed the ball home to make it 2-2.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Shanghai made 3 out of 5 penalties, while Arsenal made 4 out of 5. Arsenal won the shootout 4-3 and eliminated Shanghai with a total score of 6-5 to advance to the final.

As a result, Shanghai will face River Plate U17 for the third place in the tournament, while Arsenal will once again meet the U17 national team in the final to compete for the championship.
