Manchester United announces its 22-man squad for the match against Paris Saint-Germain: Bruno Fernandes returns, Tielemans makes his debut, leaving only five young talents.

Manchester United headed to Gothenburg, Sweden, on Friday for a much-anticipated friendly against Paris Saint-Germain, the back-to-back Champions League champions. The £35 million new recruit Youri Tielemans is included and will make his first appearance for the club on Saturday. Three World Cup participants—Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Noussair Mazraoui—who returned to training this week have also joined the trip, but Brazilian striker Cunha is not part of the squad.

Tielemans and his Belgian teammate Sena Lammens reported to Carrington last Thursday. After a week of training, Tielemans will make his debut, but Lammens is not on the list, with the official reason being that both he and Cunha are nursing minor injuries and therefore cannot play. Long-term absentees like Šeško, de Ligt, and Ugarte naturally remain sidelined.

United officials have stated that both Lammens and Cunha will join the team’s training camp in Dublin, Ireland, next week. By then, the remaining World Cup internationals—Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, and Lisandro Martínez—will also return.

Carrick has reduced the number of players in the squad but has assembled the strongest lineup of the summer. Most of the academy youngsters have been removed from the list, including the 15-year-old "Little Messi" Gabriel, who made his first-team debut last week against Atlético Madrid, setting a record for the youngest appearance in an unofficial match.

In this trip’s squad, only five non-goalkeeper academy talents remain: left-back Harry Amass, center-back Daniel Ammer, midfielders Jack and Tyler Fletcher (brothers), and winger Shea Lacey. Among them, Ammer was the captain of United’s U18 team last season. The Scottish defender’s playing style and movements are reportedly reminiscent of England’s £80 million defender Harry Maguire.

The two goalkeepers Altay Bayındır and Radek Vítek have also not traveled. Bayındır has been officially loaned to La Liga side Celta Vigo, while Vítek will complete a permanent transfer to Championship club Middlesbrough. Since the summer free-agent signing, 35-year-old veteran Karl Darlow, is still recovering from surgery, Carrick has called up 18-year-old goalkeeper Fred Heath as the third-choice option.

Around 6:30 PM on Friday evening, the team led by Carrick arrived at the team hotel. They were greeted by a large crowd of passionate fans gathered at the entrance, with whom they signed autographs and took photos. This marks the team’s first visit to the area in 10 years.

United’s opponent, Paris Saint-Germain, has only recently resumed pre-season training. On Wednesday night, they suffered a 3-0 defeat to La Liga’s Mallorca. Key player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is available to play, while World Cup internationals such as Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, João Neves, and Vitinha have all returned to training and could feature against United.

It is worth noting that PSG will play their first official match of the season next Wednesday, when they take on Aston Villa in Salzburg, Austria, for the UEFA Super Cup. As a result, United is favored to win this friendly, and Carrick is expected to secure a third consecutive pre-season victory.
