Manchester United officially announce the departure of a young talent for £14 million, with his explanation for the transfer! The return date of the new second-choice goalkeeper has been confirmed.

On Saturday, Manchester United confirmed that 22-year-old Czech goalkeeper Radek Vitek has made a permanent move to Championship club Middlesbrough. Once registered, he can feature for the team. The Red Devils are set to receive a guaranteed £7 million, with another £7 million in potential bonuses, bringing the total to £14 million.

The final amount of Vitek's transfer fee depends on Middlesbrough's performance next season and his number of appearances. If the club reaches the Premier League and the player appears in more than 60% of matches, United can receive the full fee. Additionally, the Red Devils have a 35% sell-on clause, a £20 million buy-back option, and a matching rights clause for any future offers.

As a member of the Czech youth national team, Vitek joined Manchester United from Sigma Olomouc in 2020. He won the 2022 FA Youth Cup alongside Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and others, but he never made a first-team competitive appearance.

Due to the presence of Senna Lammers, Vitek knew he had no chance of becoming the first-choice goalkeeper. Therefore, after an impressive loan spell at Bristol City in the Championship last season, where he won all the club's annual awards, Vitek decided to move to another Championship side to seek better development opportunities.

After arriving at the Riverside Stadium, Vitek explained his reason for the transfer. "This is a new challenge for me, and I am very excited to become a Middlesbrough player. The project here is very impressive because you can clearly see the club's ambition and what everyone wants to achieve. I'm happy to be part of it now."

Regarding his goals, Vitek is ambitious. "The goal is clear: to reach the Premier League. I feel that everyone in the club has this mentality, and I want to as well. I can't wait to get started now."

Middlesbrough have not yet disclosed the length of Vitek's contract, but he is expected to make his debut for the club next Saturday in their league opener at home against newly promoted Lincoln City. After being beaten by Hull City in the playoff final last season, Middlesbrough are one of the favorites for promotion in the new Championship season.

Middlesbrough have been very active this summer, and Vitek is already the seventh player they have signed! Among their acquisitions is Will Lankshear from Tottenham, whose transfer fee could reach up to £20 million. Manchester United's current manager, Michael Carrick, started his senior coaching career at Middlesbrough, and he will obviously hope his former club returns to the Premier League next season. The last time they played in the Premier League was the 2016/17 season, ten years ago.

After offloading two goalkeepers, Altay Bayındır and Vitek, in one day, Manchester United's goalkeeper setup for the new season is clear. The 24-year-old Lammers is the number one, free signing Karl Darlow is the backup, and 40-year-old veteran Tom Heaton is the third-choice. Heaton has started in both of United's recent pre-season friendlies, with youngster Dermot Mee coming off the bench. They will serve as the "training partners" for the new season.

Notably, the 35-year-old Darlow has not yet participated in training since joining. He underwent surgery after last season and is still recovering. Although the second-choice goalkeeper's availability often doesn't matter much, United still hope he returns as soon as possible. The Manchester Evening News reports that United plan for Darlow to return during their training camp in Dublin next week, participate in most training sessions, and be ready for the start of the new season on August 22.
