U20 Vietnam's first match in the Japan training camp ended in a draw.

In their first training match in Japan, U20 Vietnam held Osaka University of Economics to a 0-0 draw, starting a six-game friendly schedule aimed at preparing for the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

On the afternoon of August 9, U20 Vietnam played their first friendly in Japan against Osaka University of Economics. The match ended goalless, finishing 0-0.

This was the first of six training matches for U20 Vietnam in Japan. The result was not the team's sole focus; the coaching staff prioritized assessing the squad, trialing players, and evaluating team coordination ahead of the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

In the first half, the head coach fielded a specific lineup before making changes in the second half. Giving opportunities to many players enabled the coaching staff to check form, adaptability, and positional coordination under real match conditions.

After the draw with Osaka University of Economics, U20 Vietnam will continue with friendlies on August 10, 12, 13, 15, and 16. Their opponents are Koukou High School, Kwansei Gakuin, Gojo High School, JFL Tiamo Hirakata, and Osaka Economics High School, respectively.

The training camp in Japan, taking place from August 7 to 17, is considered a crucial period for U20 Vietnam to finalize the squad, playing style, and tactical plans. After the camp, the team will return home to enter the final preparation phase for the continental qualifiers.

In the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers, U20 Vietnam are in Group C alongside North Korea, Palestine, and Iran. The group matches will be held from August 31 to September 6 at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho province.

Playing consecutive matches against opponents with different styles in Japan gives the coaching staff an opportunity to continue evaluating the squad and selecting the optimal lineup before the official matches of the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.
