Japan coach finalizes Vietnam squad for trip to Japan

U20 Vietnam finalizes the initial squad for the Japan training camp in preparation for the 2026 U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

On the morning of August 7, the team U20 Vietnam departed for Japan to undergo a training camp in preparation for the 2027 U20 Asian Cup qualifiers. The training trip from August 7 to 17 is expected to allow the coaching staff to further assess the roster, enhance technical standards, and refine tactical approaches ahead of the home qualifying campaign.

Previously, the U20 Vietnam team regrouped from August 3 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center with a squad of 30 players. This gathering features many players who gained experience at the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship held in June, and also includes several promising talents such as Nguyễn Văn Khánh, Bạch Trọng Dương, Lê Tấn Dũng, Nguyễn Văn Bách, Nguyễn Thiên Phú, Trần Gia Bảo, Lê Văn Hoàn…

After the initial training sessions, the entire squad quickly adapted, demonstrating a dedicated training attitude and a strong resolve to secure favorable outcomes in the 2027 U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Throughout the training period in Japan, the coaching staff will concentrate on boosting physical conditioning, refining gameplay, and providing opportunities for players to accumulate experience via friendly matches arranged by the Japan Football Association. Following the conclusion of the training camp on August 17, the U20 Vietnam team will return to the country to commence the final stage of preparation before taking part in Group C of the 2027 U20 Asian Cup qualifiers, which will be held from August 31 to September 6 at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).

At the qualifying stage, U20 Vietnam will take on Iran, North Korea, and Palestine in turn. This group is regarded as highly competitive, with Iran being a top seed and a traditional powerhouse in Asian youth football. Meanwhile, North Korea and Palestine also boast capable lineups, ensuring tough matches ahead.

Benefiting from home-field advantage and meticulous preparation during the Japan training camp, U20 Vietnam is targeting strong performances in the 2027 U20 Asian Cup qualifiers, aiming to secure a spot in the final competition.
