Man City reveals new 'weapon' that excites Maresca ahead of decisive clash with Arsenal

Winning 3-1 against Atletico Madrid not only helped Man City end their Asian tour on a positive note, but also delivered a special, eye-catching sign for manager Enzo Maresca when the pair of Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush displayed encouraging synergy.

Man City produced an impressive comeback against Atletico Madrid at Seoul World Cup Stadium, in their final match of the Asian tour before the official season begins.

Enzo Maresca's team enjoyed more possession and created several chances in the first half, but were unexpectedly caught out when Jorge Dominguez scored from close range, sending Atletico Madrid into the break with a lead.

However, the situation changed rapidly after the interval. And the spotlight of Man City's turnaround was the partnership between Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush.

The brilliance of the Marmoush-Semenyo duo helped Man City successfully overturn the deficit

In the 57th minute, Semenyo accelerated down the left flank before delivering a well-placed cross for Marmoush to slide in and finish, bringing the game back to square one.

Just two minutes later, a nearly identical script unfolded. Semenyo again sent the ball in from the left, and Marmoush once again appeared at the right moment to complete his brace, putting Man City 2-1 ahead.

Rayan Ait-Nouri then scored in stoppage time to seal the 3-1 victory for the Premier League side.

The two consecutive link-ups in a very short span showed that Semenyo and Marmoush are beginning to find a common language in attack. Semenyo alone ended the Asian tour with four assists in three matches.

After the match, Maresca was particularly satisfied with what his players showed against an experienced opponent like Atletico Madrid.

“Overall, it was a very good test against one of Europe's top teams. The players deserve credit for their efforts,” the Italian tactician shared.

However, Maresca believes Man City still have an area to improve before the season officially starts: their ability to take chances.

“We need to be sharper. That's what the team needs to improve. We are gradually getting better, and when Erling Haaland is available, the team can be even more dangerous. Today Omar scored two goals, and that's clearly a big boost”, Maresca emphasized.

The emergence of the Semenyo-Marmoush pair therefore provides a notable additional option for Man City's new manager. If Haaland returns and reaches his best form, Maresca will have significantly more choices in attack, from wide penetration to direct runs into the penalty area.

The win over Atletico also helped Man City end their Asian tour with relatively positive signs in the first three matches under Maresca. More importantly, the manager is gradually shaping the attacking options he can employ when the official matches begin.

The next test will be much tougher as Man City face Arsenal in the Community Shield on August 16. And with what Semenyo and Marmoush just displayed in Seoul, Maresca at least has another 'weapon' to look forward to before the first major clash of the season.
