OFFICIAL: Vietnam National Team receives final verdict in brand new FIFA tournament.

The Vietnam National Team now knows its stadiums for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup after PSSI's official confirmation.

The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has confirmed that Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and Si Jalak Harupat Stadium will be used to host Division 1 matches of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup in late September and early October. According to information previously released by FIFA, the Vietnam national team is placed in Group B alongside Thailand, the Philippines, and Pakistan.This is considered a notable group, as both Vietnam and Thailand are among the top teams in Southeast Asia.

The 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup is the first regional tournament directly managed by the World Football Federation (FIFA), entirely independent from the traditional AFF Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place from September 24 to October 3, coinciding with the FIFA Days. This allows teams to call up their best squads, including players abroad. Match results will also be used to calculate FIFA ranking points.

Not limited to Southeast Asia, the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup also features two guest teams: Pakistan and Hong Kong (China). The inclusion of these non-regional representatives adds diversity to the competition and gives Southeast Asian teams more opportunities to face different playing styles in an official environment.

According to the announced format, the tournament is divided into Division 1 and Division 2. Division 1 is held in Indonesia, with Group A consisting of hosts Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Singapore. The Vietnam national team is in Group B with Thailand, the Philippines, and Pakistan. It is likely that Gelora Bung Karno Stadium will host Group A matches for the host Indonesia, while Group B will probably be held at the smaller Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.

Meanwhile, Division 2 takes place in Hong Kong (China), with Hong Kong, Myanmar, and Brunei in Group A, and Cambodia, Laos, and Timor-Leste in Group B.

The division into two tiers is expected to help teams of similar level play more frequently, thereby improving match quality and reducing blowout games. For teams in Division 2, the tournament also serves to gain experience, improve competitiveness, and aim for promotion to higher divisions in future editions.

For the Vietnam national team, the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup is not only an opportunity to compete for a new title but also holds significant importance for FIFA ranking points.
