Coach Phan Thanh Hung has been recognized for his contributions to Vietnamese football.

The VFF awarded Coach Phan Thanh Hung the Commemorative Medal "For the Cause of Vietnamese Football."

On the morning of August 9, at his home in Da Nang, Coach Phan Thanh Hung was honored to receive the "For the Cause of Vietnamese Football" Commemorative Medal presented by VFF Vice President Nguyen Xuan Vu. Mr. Phan Thanh Hung is currently a member of the National Coaches Council and a former head coach of the National Football Team.

During the meeting, Vice President Nguyen Xuan Vu kindly inquired about Coach Phan Thanh Hung's health and conveyed greetings and encouragement from the VFF Executive Committee and its Standing Committee. He also emotionally recalled memorable moments from the time Coach Phan Thanh Hung trained with the Vietnam U20 team in Japan.

Moved by the concern of VFF leaders, Coach Phan Thanh Hung expressed his gratitude. On behalf of the VFF Executive Committee and its Standing Committee, Vice President Nguyen Xuan Vu presented this prestigious award to recognize his contributions to the development of domestic football.

Coach Phan Thanh Hung currently serves as a member of the National Coaches Council. In the past, he worked for many years with various Vietnamese national teams, notably serving as an assistant coach for the national team from 2008 to 2011. In 2010, he took on the role of head coach for Vietnam U23, before being appointed to lead the Vietnam national team for a period in 2012. The most notable achievement of the coach, born in 1960, at the national team level was the 2008 AFF Cup championship, when he served as an assistant to Coach Henrique Calisto.

Before becoming a coach, Phan Thanh Hung played for Da Nang Club from 1980 to 1992. In 1993, he made five appearances for the Vietnam national team. After retiring, the Da Nang-born strategist worked at several clubs, including Da Nang, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, and Binh Duong. He also returned to the Han River team twice, in 2023 and 2025.

Since early February, Coach Phan Thanh Hung left Da Nang Club after serving as technical director and has not worked for any club since. At the club level, he boasts an impressive record with two V.League titles and one National Super Cup with Hanoi Club. During his tenure at Quang Ninh, he also helped the club win a National Cup and a National Super Cup.
