Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is reportedly involved in a consortium close to finalizing an agreement to buy about a third of Liverpool FC's shares in the Premier League, as reported by Sky News on Monday.
According to the broadcaster, the consortium is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the controlling shareholder of Liverpool, is reportedly preparing to announce the deal as early as this week.
In July, FSG confirmed that Bhatia's consortium had approached the group with an offer to buy a minority stake in the club. According to sources, the deal would value Liverpool at around $5.9 billion, putting the value of approximately 30% of the shares at about $1.8 billion. FSG will retain control of the club.

Bhatia was previously a shareholder of Queens Park Rangers and is the son-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. If completed, the deal would bring Bezos, Bhatia, and Saverin into Liverpool's ownership structure as members of the minority stake investment consortium.
Forbes estimates Bezos's wealth at over $280 billion, while Saverin's assets exceed $32 billion.
FSG has controlled Liverpool since acquiring the club for about $402 million in 2010. In 2023, the group also sold a minority stake to global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity.
