Malaysian fans are upset because tickets for the ASEAN Cup semifinal match against Vietnam have surged by 70%.

The cost of standard seating tickets for the August 16 ASEAN Cup 2026 semifinal first leg between Malaysia and Vietnam is almost 70% higher than the group stage prices.

According to the ticket sales announcement for the semifinal first leg released by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today (August 11), adult general admission tickets have gone up from 30 ringgit (RM) in the group stage to 50 RM.

Per FAM's announcement, Grandstand tickets are priced at 70 RM and VIP tickets at 100 RM, while children's general admission tickets remain unchanged at 5 RM.

The first leg of the semifinal will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras. Afterwards, the Malaysian team will be the away side at My Dinh National Stadium on August 19 for the return leg.

Based on several fan comments on the Instagram page famalaysia, many supporters have expressed dissatisfaction and questioned the ticket price increase.

Some even argue that this price would be more reasonable if the match were held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

User hafiyyan00 commented: "It's not that I can't afford it, but 50 RM for a match in Cheras seems too expensive. Jumping straight to 50 RM is too much; if it were raised to 35 RM, it would be acceptable."

User izuanzikry wrote: "The price is as if watching at Bukit Jalil," while afif.iskandar commented: "In 2018, I could still buy a 50 RM ticket because it was at Bukit Jalil. But this time, 50 RM for a match in Cheras? Absolutely not."

"If the match were at Bukit Jalil, such a price would be acceptable, but it's at Cheras instead. FAM should think a bit," user mioraqil wrote.

Meanwhile, another fan under the account zainal_abidin599 commented: "Suddenly raising the price. The ticket prices should have stayed the same as from the beginning so that more fans would come to support the Malaysian team."

According to the schedule, in the first leg of the 2026 ASEAN Cup semifinals, Singapore will host Thailand on August 15, and Malaysia will face Vietnam at home on August 16.

The return legs will take place on August 18 when Thailand hosts Singapore, and on August 19 when Vietnam returns to My Dinh Stadium to face Malaysia.
