After the match, he emotionally stated that this win was dedicated to his grandmother, who passed away months ago; last week would have been her 101st birthday.

Korda had recently upset world number one Alcaraz and was in good form. When leading 6-5 in the second-set tiebreak and having a match point, Landa Luse withstanded the pressure with a backhand winner, winning two consecutive points to level the set. Korda requested two medical pauses for a back injury in the third set but could not turn the match around.

Through this breakthrough run, Landa Luse's live ranking jumped 48 places to 103rd. He will face Lehecka in the quarterfinals, aiming for a semifinal spot.

Having trained at the Nadal tennis academy, he won the US Open junior championship at 16 but had few tour-level wins before.
