Jannik Sinner faced a relatively tough match in the Miami Open quarterfinals this year against the home representative - Alex Michelsen.
World No. 2 Jannik Sinner continues his impressive journey at the Miami Open 2026 by securing a spot in the quarterfinals, but after a hard-fought victory over Alex Michelsen, the Italian star frankly admitted he is still not at his best.
In the quarterfinal match held early in the morning on March 25 Vietnam time, Sinner faced a major challenge when his opponent led 5-2 in the second set. However, the composure of a top-ranked player helped him successfully turn the tide, concluding the match with a victory in two sets with scores of 7-5; 7-6 and maintaining a perfect winning record at this year's tournament.
Nevertheless, in his post-match comments, Sinner could not hide his cautious assessment of his personal performance. "To be honest, I don't feel completely healthy. The changing conditions between day and night matches make everything more difficult. But I am satisfied because I fought until the end.", the world No. 2 said.
Sinner emphasized the role of his serves in the victory, especially at crucial moments. However, he also acknowledged that he has many areas to improve if he wants to advance further in this year's tournament.
"This is a good response for me. But if I want to go further, I need to refine a few more aspects of my game.", the player born in 2001 added.
The current form of the Miami Open 2024 champion remains formidable. Since the loss to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, Sinner has maintained high consistency and continues to show maturity in his approach to matches. He also affirmed that he is not overly affected by win-loss results, but focuses on understanding his own playing style.
"I'm not the type who gets overly excited when winning or too disappointed when losing. The important thing is understanding what I need to do to improve.", he emphasized.
With a streak of 9 consecutive wins in Miami (counting from his 2024 championship title, not participating in the 2025 season due to a competition ban), Sinner stands before a major opportunity to continue conquering the title, especially when Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev have all been eliminated.
In the quarterfinals, Sinner will face Frances Tiafoe - a powerful opponent always capable of surprises. This promises to be a real test for the Italian player's championship ambitions, and will also verify the shortcomings he himself admitted.
