Sinner Sets New Points Record, Closing in on Alcaraz's World No. 1 Spot

Jannik Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4) in the Miami Open semifinals, advancing powerfully to the final and simultaneously achieving his career-high ATP points, steadily approaching Carlos Alcaraz's world No. 1 position.

As the current world No. 2, Sinner extended his unbeaten-set streak in ATP 1000 Masters events. After this match, his consecutive sets won record at this tournament level has expanded to 32 sets, a momentum that began with his flawless title run at the Paris Masters at the end of 2025. This victory also marks his eighth consecutive win over Zverev and his fourth straight win over the German player in straight sets.

With this win, Sinner's ATP live points reached 12,050. Upon the official ranking update on Monday, he will set a new personal career-high points record. This is not his first time surpassing the 12,000-point milestone; he achieved it after winning Wimbledon last year, and now his momentum is even stronger.

Sinner is aiming for the Indian Wells + Miami "Sunshine Double." In Sunday's final, he will face Czech player Lehecka. If he successfully wins the title, his points will rise to 12,400, narrowing the gap with Alcaraz to just 1,190 points.

Next month at the Monte Carlo clay Masters, Alcaraz needs to defend the 1,000 points from his title win last year, while Sinner has no points to defend due to his suspension last year, offering a chance to significantly close the gap. Subsequently at the Madrid Masters, Sinner will continue his assault on the world No. 1 spot. Alcaraz started the year with a hot streak at the Australian Open, but now the season's momentum has fully shifted to Sinner. The Italian also hopes to claim his first championship trophy at the French Open in June.
